Disaster Risk and Earthquake Vulnerability Assessment 

The Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world for experiencing natural disasters such as: Earthquake, Fire, Volcanic Eruption, Typhoon, Storm, Flood, Storm Surge and Landslides.The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) expect a 7.2 magnitude earthquake resulting to movement of the West Valley Fault which will result to a devastating impact in Metro Manila. Scientists predict it has a recurrence interval of 400 to 500 years. The last major earthquake originating from the fault was recorded in 1658 or 357 years ago.

Last July 27, a magnitude 7 earthquake struck inland in the northern province of Abra Wednesday morning, and badly damaging buildings and roads, and sending strong tremors through Metro Manila. where several buildings were evacuated The strong quake centered two kilometers northeast of Langilang, Abra, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

Disaster risk assessment is a participatory process to assess the  hazards, vulnerabilities and coping capacities of your organization.
